How the Locals Like it

Mapleton IGA

Embodying the best of small towns and the spirit of caring communities

Kelly and Linda Anderson have owned Mapleton IGA site since 1995, having previously been dairy farmers in Maleny in the late 60’s.

Today they work alongside their son Kel, his fiancee Esther and his son Brendan, their daughter Marianne and her children.

When they took on the business, there was a strip of seven small shops on the current site including a haberdashery, a bakery and a hairdressing salon.

Then in 2004 the Andersons bought the freehold and began the conversion to the impressive store that now graces the site.

Kelly and Linda decided to partner with IGA because of the lines they offered and because they allowed a good deal of freedom and flexibility as business owners to source and sell local products.

This allows them to put their own stamp on the store and to support world-class local producers.

18,000 lines plus local products

Mapleton stocks the entire core IGA range, which is around 18,000 lines. This provide a consistent shopping experience. And the Andersons are always happy to source favourite brands for regular customers.

They also have products that are unique to the store and the area, and that is something that even the largest of the major supermarkets does not offer.

It has become part of the appeal people love about shopping at Mapleton IGA.

When you enter the store, you are greeted by the happy smiling faces of the friendly staff and the warmth, sounds and smells of a home kitchen.

Customer service is close to the Anderson’s hearts and they are fortunate to have a close team of people who share their values, and go out of their way to look after customers.

Maple Leaf Bakery & Cafe

As well as groceries there is an extensive range of ready to eat food for people on the go.

All sandwiches, rolls and wraps are freshly prepared every day.

They also roast chickens and have a great selection of hot food, which people appreciate on chilly days.

For morning and afternoon teas, they have coffee and have sourced a local supplier for delicious pastries, tarts and cakes.

The store not only caters for locals, but also motorists traveling through the area.

Mapleton BP

The site is the only fuel station between Nambour and Landsborough, stocking BP Ultimate Petrol and AP Ultimate Diesel.

And they have a really good range of products for motorists and tourists, from car care products to hats and sunglasses.

Plus there’s a terrific range of beautiful local cheeses and deli lines that are perfect for picnics on the Range.”

Some years ago Kelly read an article in The Australian newspaper about the most liveable places in each state in Australia, Mapleton was the one selected in Queensland.

Kelly believes this still rings true today because it is located in such a beautiful, central part of the Coast, it is still very affordable and because it is such a caring community.”

The Andersons are grateful to be able to live locally, employ locals, support our local producers and to give back to our community in as many ways as they can.

Because it is villages like Mapleton that embody the best of small towns and caring communities.
